lately i've been writing a little more than usual, though it has not really meant progress in any one specific thing so much as starting various things that I will probably never finish. this is less than ideal, but it seems likely better than not writing anything at all; i enjoy the process, it's a nice kind of mental stimulation I don't get by default, and hopefully with enough practice i will in fact get to the point that i can write more than a few thousand words of a thing before abandoning it forever. I don't know that it will, but it's not like anything else I was doing was any better at moving forward on that goal and it seems worth trying

i am thinking about having somewhere to put stories, because talking about these things is fun, but, well. they're not good and I have a hard time imagining anyone would care. so i go back and forth on this. possibly i should have a dedicated writing blog and post bits and pieces there and let people self filter; possibly it's a pointless effort and i should wait until i manage to make something i'm happy to tell people "hey, read this"

Perhaps you’re your own harshest critic, and the stories aren’t as bad as you think. (Certainly, it sounds like you’re not on the bad end of Dunning-Kruger.)
