the kindle mobile app is being so pointlessly annoying that I am tempted to pirate books I already own just so I can read them without the extra minute of frustration before it deigns to open the godsdamned book that was open last.

(not that i would ever do so of course piracy is illegal)

FBreader doesn't do this to me, presumably because they have zero interest in taking me out of the book I'm reading to sell me other books. they do occasionally pop up to sell me the premium version of their app, admittedly.

Hasn't there been some court case about how making copies of a digital thing you own is perfectly legal as long as they're for your private use?

I don't know what Argentina's copyright law is like, but insofar as it allows you to strip DRM from things: stripping Kindle books' DRM is very easy, given some initial infrastructure-setup. Past that setup, it takes a little marginal effort per book, but not any more than pirating would.

(I'd be happy to give a more detailed infodump on the topic if you're interested, either here or on Discord; but I figure it makes sense to interest-check first.)
