People should stop saying 'bad weather' when they mean cloudy or rainy. I just deeply confused my mum when I referred to weather for the next few days being bad, by which i meant sunny and a temperature of 35°C, which is, objectively, bad, rather than 'bad', in the sense of rainy, which would be very good.

There are many circumstances when rain is inconvenient but that's what they are, circumstances. Not an objective sun>rain ranking that should be enshrined in the phrase 'bad weather'.

I think you're not wrong: that sort of weather is _the worst_. When I hear 'bad weather' I tend to think 'rain'; for 'terribly hot', I think I've been saying 'miserable weather' for the last few years.

It's bad weather if it prevents me from doing what I want to do, and hot sunny weather tends to stop me more pervasively than cold rainy weather - I can come in from the rain, but if it's 35c outside, it's 30c inside, and I can't do anything when I'm that hot.

miserable is in fact a word i would associate with this kind of weather. i am certainly miserable right now

incidentally something left out of the op is that i did not literally use the word "bad", because it's not like I talk in English with my mother. A more literal translation would be "ugly" weather.

It's a shame that people bind "ugly weather" to "stormy weather" so strongly - everyone and everything looks worse in harsh sunlight.

I hope the heat passes as quickly as possible.

I think in English it stems from how little sun the British isles reliably get in a year; the general association is probably a hold-over from the pre-industrial era.
