TIL: both "can't have your cake and eat it too" and "head over heels" used to be more common the other way around ("can't eat your cake and [still] have it", "heels over head") and thus used to actually make sense before people decided that, idk, they sounded better turned around.

I guess the cake version works equally well both ways, since AND is commutative? But "head over heels" is really annoying. Particularly since it would be useful to have both "head over heels" and "heel over head", to also have a phrase for "eh, not that into them"...

I don't think "and" is commutative when describing a temporal sequence, or at the very least it makes some interpretations less likely than others.
