sometimes it feels like things I notice or think about in a certain time period tend to organise themselves around specific themes

the theme for the past few months has been: people are way better at identifying problems than at finding solutions. a persuasive argument that a particular system is broken provides very little evidence that the arguer's proposed solution is a good one.
