where did the accent mark on the e in Pokémon come from, anyway? It’s not there in Pocket Monsters, and it’s not there in pocket-monsters-but-spelled-in-katakana.

Did someone just put it there for no reason and it stuck? Is there something about the romanised contraction that makes it make sense?

I always figured it was there to make sure people pronounce it as three syllables, instead of "poke mon"

Like if they hadn't put an accent on Naminé, my first instinct would have been to pronounce it "na mine"
