i think we should adopt Panthera hybrid nomenclature more broadly for children of parents of different species. stop with the anthropocentric assumption that a 'half-elf' is specifically half human half elf; start calling 'em hulfs (hulves?) and elmans, to distinguish them from, say, a dwelf, or an orf.

The in-universe justification for anthropocentrism I usually hear is that humans have, as an innate magical ability, the capacity to interbreed with any sapient species. You can safely assume that a half-elf is half-human because the only people elves can procreate with are elves and humans.

That being said, I'm in favour of just about anything that lets me use words like "dwelf" and "orf".

My character in one RPG I played was an elfling (half elf, half halfling), and ever since then I've been disappointed with D&D for its lack of comparable mechanical support for half-whatevers.
