Nov. 6th, 2019 06:49 pmtoday in fun bugs: google maps suggesting a "1 hr 3 min" route that has a section in the middle that involves walking for an hour and a half for 7.6 km.

(my guess is that when picking routes and calculating overall times, maps assumes walking is straight-line, but when actually telling you what to do they take into account that you need an actual path (that might not be easily walkable). so if you have to walk between two points that are very close, but say one is a bus stop along a highway that isn't meant for pedestrians to easily enter or exit, the only 'path' might be to walk along the highway for several km until you find a way to exit via walking (and then walk a comparable distance back, because remember the two points were very close in straight-line distance, and you've walked along the highway for a while, inevitably getting away from both of them)
