(no subject)

While my desktop was broken I had set up my laptop to use my monitor, keyboard and mouse, because convenience and stuff. Now that I have a functioning desktop again, it has been demoted because, y'know, the desktop needs those.

inconveniently I had started playing dragon age on my laptop when it had all the nice prostheses making it easy to use, and the game does not run on my desktop (because linux). So now if I wanna keep playing I need to either disconnect and reconnect a bunch of cables every time, which is annoying, or play in much less comfort. hmph.

(i do not understand people whose primary devices are laptops. how do you function)

Sounds like you want a KVM switch?

I have a separate mouse but otherwise? I don't know how people function without a laptop :'D Sometimes I wanna write on the loo, and I also travel a lot and would hate to be without all my software and files.

Buuut I also don't play games on the PC so I guess that helps. I doubt that would be changed by me getting a desktop though, I just hate the gamefeel of mouse and keyboard gaming.

Valid, I just really hate writing on a phone. I even have a little Bluetooth keyboard that's compatible with my phone, but it hasn't seen much use mostly because I take my laptop everywhere.

One cannot miss what one has never had!

(i.e. I've never used anything other than a laptop for substantial amounts of personal computing and don't have habits that want for more ... screen-space? keyboardage? I'm honestly not even sure what the differences here are!)

Ah-ha. Yes, I'm just used to having a screen that's substantially below eye level. Currently sitting with the screen on the table and just ... looking down at it. Feels like it'd be kinda weird to have things otherwise.
