from now on I will exclusively interpret the phrase "[character] doesn't deserve a redemption arc" as equivalent to "[character] did nothing wrong (and therefore does not need to be redeemed)"

Never understood the concept of not deserving a redemption arc. Isn't a good redemption arc defined by the character becoming someone who deserves it?
